If you’re looking for a free movie to watch, we have many choices. Coming up, I’ll show you ten of the best websites where you can watch thousands of movies for free online.
You may not find the latest and greatest blockbusters on these sites, but every now and then you’ll find a hidden gem you’ll wish you had seen earlier.
Let’s get to our Top 10 free movies websites.
Here are a few disclaimers:
The streaming services are available here in the United States and completely legal to use. If you live outside the US. Some are all may not be free or legally available in your area.
In addition to website access from your computer, mobile apps for most of these are available for iOS and Android, along with access from streaming devices like Roku, Amazon, Fire, TV, Apple TV, 4K, Nvidia Shield, and many others.Â
#10. Vudu
While the site is a well-known place to buy and rent movies, it also offers an excellent selection of free feature length movies. Right now, there are more than 5000 for you to choose from, with some in HD.
To separate the good from the bad. I’d advise using their filters. Fresh only is a good one to use to find the best-reviewed movies. A few I’d recommend include Enemy of the State, The Classic, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest starring Clint Eastwood.
When you make a selection from their free page, you’ll be given the option to watch for free with ads or if you want, you could rent or buy that film. This page will also give you additional information about that film, including its score on Rotten Tomatoes.
#9. Tubi
The service offers a large selection of free movies, including a good variety of newer titles. With more than 200 partners, including Stars, Paramount Pictures, Lionsgate, MGM, and many others, You’ll find popular titles on here not available on other services.
When deciding on what to watch, they include more than a dozen of the usual genres like drama, action, comedy, and thrillers. Tubi also offers unique collections, including highly rated on Rotten Tomatoes, Cult Classics and not on Netflix.
#8. IMDb TVÂ
Most of you are probably familiar with IMDb, the popular database site for TV shows and movies. They now have a streaming service called IMDb TV, which offers a decent selection with hundreds of free TV shows and movies.
Recent movies added worth checking out include Hacksaw Ridge and Gravity. One knock against IMDb TV is that navigating the site could be easier if it had filter options, which hopefully they add in the future.
Like most services, it is ad-supported. IMDb is owned by Amazon, so if you sign in with your Amazon Prime account, you can watch the free movies without the ads.
#7. Sony Crackle
Sony Crackle is a service that’s been around for more than a decade. As you would expect, it features hundreds of full-length movies from the back catalog of Sony Pictures.
My experience when using Sony Crackle is that they seem to have more ad breaks the most and navigating the site can be a chore when trying to find something to watch.
Other than that, some of you will appreciate their extensive catalog, including original films made exclusively for their service.
#6. The Roku Channel
If you own a Roku streaming device, then you already know that you have access to the Roku Channel on your device. Even if you don’t own one, you can still stream content from the The Roku Channel website in your favorite browser.
All that’s required is a user account, which is free. The website does offer a generous number of high-quality free movies, but finding them is not easy.
The movies are all mixed in on their home page, with their TV shows, live TV channels, and premium content from the likes of HBO and Showtime, which are not free.
#5. Popcornflix
Popcornflix is another longtime favorite for many people. More than 1500 movies can be found on the site, including popular classics and more recent films.
If you’re having trouble finding something to watch, scroll down to their staff picks and you’ll find some great recommendations. One I enjoyed is the Martin Scorsese film Silence from 2017.
#4. Hoopla
Hoopla is different than the services mentioned so far. If you have a library card from your local library and they participate, you’ll have the ability to borrow movies, TV shows, audiobooks, and other content from the comfort of your home.
Their selection does change periodically, and some titles are only available for a limited time. When you’re deciding on a film to watch, there are dozens of categories for you to choose from.
Kanopy is another free service like Hoopla that requires a library card. They offer a large selection as well, with a heavy focus on independent and classic films.
#3. SnagFilms
Now, if you’re looking for something out of the ordinary, SnagFilms just may be the site you’re looking for. With a unique selection of domestic and foreign films and eye-opening documentaries, you just may find something on here of interest to you that you won’t find anywhere else.
#2. Pluto TV
Pluto TV is a cool site that looks a lot like cable without the cable TV price. Best of all, it’s completely free. There are two ways that you can use the site.
- You can scroll through the Channel Guide of more than 100 live TV channels to find what is currently playing,
- or you could browse the on-demand section to watch when it’s convenient for you.
#1. YouTube
In addition to hosting a near-endless supply of cat videos or getting the latest commentary from the world’s brightest minds, YouTube also hosts a large number of movies at no cost from their movies and shows section. They’re AD supported, but if you subscribe to YouTube Premium, you can watch them without any commercials.
